The Polish Pavilion draws inspiration from the willow—one of the most symbolic trees in Polish culture, celebrated in art, tradition, and folklore. Like a willow offering shade and shelter, the pavilion welcomes visitors under one roof, symbolizing Polish openness, resilience, and hospitality. Its architecture weaves together Polish and Japanese traditions. The spatial layout originates from origami folds of a paper piano, a tribute to Fryderyk Chopin. At the heart of the pavilion is a concert hall, designed to open up and let Chopin’s music resonate across the space. Slender structural columns, reminiscent of willow branches, support the roof, while woven partitions create flexible exhibition areas. Light and water play a central role—roof openings filter daylight, a reflecting pool scatters shimmering reflections, and wicker walls create shade, evoking the Japanese concept of komorebi. Delicate yet strong, subtle yet striking, the pavilion embodies the Japanese aesthetic of iki. It is a space of balance, resilience, and creativity—a living symbol of friendship between Poland and Japan.
